Recommended books from the plain thick and thuggish
Right, for starters, and off the top of my head:Devil take the Hindmost (A history of financial speculation) - Edward Chancellor.Very interesting and well written. Globalisation and it's Discontents - Joseph StiglitzI think many may have read this already, but it's a very good critique of the conduct and policies of the IMF/World Bank/Washington Consensus. The Gods that failed - Larry Elliott, Dan AtkinsonA pretty readable assessment of the current shitstorm.
Fantasy Island - Larry Elliott. Essential reading, and actually very funny. Elliott looks at the fantasy of New Labour Britain as compared to the reality - needless to say, the comparison isnt a kind one.
